Educational Philosophy

Developing Cultural appreciation

Based on the understanding that respect for diversity is appreciated and embraced, we can then recognise the uniqueness and differences of each individual and their cultural background. Sharing an appreciation of the Balinese and Indonesian culture also offers our families rich experiences of learning about Indonesia, and the importance of living respectfully, sustainably and cohesively within the local community.

Education for Sustainability

The environment and resources we offer to children teach an understanding of themselves and the inter-relatedness of the world around them. Being responsible global citizens and living interconnected to nature is one of our primary goals for our learners at The Anak Atelier.

By integrating the daily practices of sustainability through locally sourced and natural materials into our classrooms, we are helping children see the value and essence of what their local and native communities can offer them. The children develop an understanding of how they can use these everyday materials as a tool to learn, repurpose and creatively reuse.

Empowering Lifelong Learning

Developing lifelong skills that are transferable from childhood to adulthood enable our young learners to be adaptive to the modern world full of new changes and challenges. Some examples of lifelong skills are effective communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, heart-led leadership, making connections, creating communities of belonging, having empathy and agency, cultivating sustainable mindsets, and collaboration in culturally diverse contexts. These are essential adaptation skills that are useful for life.

Cultivating Mindfulness and Emotional Intelligence

“Children with higher emotional intelligence are better able to pay attention, are more engaged in school, have more positive relationships, and are more empathic”. (Raver, Garner, & Smith-Donald, 2007)

Through mindfulness and learning about emotional intelligence, children can benefit from having tools to help them navigate challenging moments. Our teachers work to support the children in building inner resilience, awareness and compassion from the inside out so that they can have healthy and positive relationships with themselves and others.
